DQ’s for Antwone Fisher
Antwone gets into a lot of fights. Do you think that he fights because people have made him angry, or is he angry already?
- I think Antwone gets into fights because people make him angry and is already angry at the same time.
When Antwone first goes to see the therapist, he is very vague with information about his background. Why would he not just come out with all of his history? Is he hiding something? How is Antwone different or the same as Melinda Sordino in Speak?
- Antwone would not tell the therapist anything of his past for the first time because it hurt him so much to say and think of it. Antwone is hiding his past because he doesn’t want to think about it. I think Antwone is kind of the same as Melinda because they both were forced to do something that they didn’t want to and just scared.
Why does Antwone say that he should just go to the brig? How would that be easier for him then the alternative that he is given?
- This alternative would not be easier for Antwone because he would sit there and not be able to express himself and get what he has in his mind out.
When his shipmates are talking about going home for the holiday, Antwone ignores the question. Why?
- I think Antwone wanted to ignore the question because; he doesn’t have or doesn’t know if he has a family.
During the Thanksgiving dinner at the doctor’s house, Antwone is put into an awkward situation when the doctor’s father asks him questions. Why was it awkward for him?
- Antwone has never have has had questions this personal and was embarrassed that he couldn’t answered them.
The doctor at one point says that forgiveness is freeing yourself. Do you agree? Talk about Antwone and Melinda in terms of forgiving themselves. What would they be forgiving themselves for? Why?
- Antwone and Melinda I think would be forgiving themselves, because they were the ones that kept the secret that they held for so long and all it did was hurt them.
